About The Gate City Alumni Chapter.

No Step Backwards is the motto adopted by seven young men who were the first graduating class of the A & M College for the College Race, the first name given to what is now North Carolina A & T State University.  As our first alumni, they charted the course for our Alumni Association.  The late Dr. B.W. Barnes is credited with organizing the first alumni chapter in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1909, the first year after he graduated from the College.  Now known as The Gate City Chapter, we celebrated our “centennial” in 2009.

Our Purpose.

TThe Gate City Chapter purpose is to make a difference at A&T and the Greensboro Community through our many service projects. We are also dedicated to support the programs and objectives of the National Alumni Association: to promote, support and aid the University in carrying out its mission and to assist the University in recruiting and retaining qualified students. We have fundraising activities to provide financial assistance to Guilford County students through our scholarship program.
